Amorgos is the eastern island of Cyclades islands group and for this reasn is close to the neighboring Dodecanese island group. Together with several neighboring islets, the largest of which is Nikouria Island, it comprises the municipality of Amorgos, which has a land area of 126.346 kmē, and a population of 1,859 peolpe (2001 census).
